The pandemic has hit newsrooms hard at a time when public interest information is needed. But even before the crisis, the economic and political conditions for newsrooms weren’t exactly optimal either.

Luminate has been arguing for the need to pull together a billion-dollar fund to support and rebuild journalism around the world, especially in countries that need it most. Nishant is at Beta to talk about how they’re going about it and what else needs to be done to help journalism thrive.

Nishant leads Luminate's global strategy for investing in independent media. This includes work in investigative journalism, press freedom, combatting misinformation, and innovative financial models for editorial independence.
